Insights from LocWorld50
By Thayane Lesse (BOLD)
Last month, LocWorld50 took place in Silicon Valley, gathering professionals from all over the world. From what I heard, a record-breaking number of Brazilians participated. The energy was palpable, especially with Gabriel Fairman clinching the 15th Process Innovation Award of the year. It's a proud moment for Brazil, showcasing our spirit and expertise on the world stage!
Fresh from the enlightening corridors of the conference, I could see that Localization is in its renaissance. Technology, our steadfast ally, is opening doors to unprecedented possibilities and unlocking opportunities like never before. The buzzwords of our time—AI—are not just jargon, but tools that amplify our reach and refine our craft. Yet, they haven't replaced the irreplaceable: our human insight and cultural sensitivity, which remain the soul of what we do.
We're charting a course to a world where our technological tools empower us, allowing more room for the creative human spirit to thrive through transcreation. This synergy is the pulse of our industry, enabling us to deliver messages that resonate universally. Like Jason Mars perfectly said on his panel "Demystifying Generative AI: The Signal in the Noise", we will grow to be great talents with powerful assistants ready to take us to another level.
A standout moment at the conference was when Cecilia Piaggio and Marleen Julien Souverain shared their insights on localizing Facebook and how they made it accessible to underrepresented languages, particularly Haitian Creole. It was a moving panel that had me dropping tears the whole time. It vividly illustrated the profound impact that localization has on enhancing accessibility in the world, and why this industry is so special.
Our love for localization springs from its purpose: to make every user feel seen, heard, and valued. It's about ensuring that when content crosses borders, it carries with it the heart and soul of its origin, tailored to touch lives everywhere.
LocWorld reminded us that our work has the power to transcend languages and cultures. We're not just providing a service; we're nurturing a world where every voice can be heard in the chorus of global conversation.
As we move forward, let's carry with us the spirit of LocWorld—a spirit of innovation, community, and a shared commitment to a world that grows closer every day through the connections we forge in our work.Thayane is a Localization Project Manager based in LA and holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management.
